Hinges and drawers: Blum, FGV or GTV — what is the difference

Why hardware affects how long a kitchen lasts more than the fronts do, and how to pick a brand for your budget.

You see the fronts straight away, but you only notice hardware when it starts to work badly. Hinges, drawer runners and lift systems open thousands of times a year, so they largely decide how long a kitchen lasts.

Blum (Austria)

Premium segment. Smooth motion, precise adjustment and a wide range of drawer and lift systems. More expensive, but a fit-and-forget choice.

FGV (Italy)

Mid-range. Good quality and reliable soft-close hinges at a more affordable price. A sensible choice for most kitchens.

GTV (Poland)

Budget segment. Works when staying within a budget matters most — for example, in wardrobes and units that are opened less often.

How to choose

  • Do not save on units you open every day (drawers by the hob and sink).
  • Rarely used cabinets can take more affordable hardware.
  • You can mix brands in one kitchen.

Our proposal has a “What you can change” section: you switch Blum to FGV or GTV yourself and see the total change instantly.
